LIGHTING SIZE GUIDE

Find the right size for your space.

Choose a lighting type to explore sizing, placement and hanging-height guidance for your room.

Dining Room

Choose the size

For a round chandelier, start with a diameter around one-half to two-thirds of the table width. For a linear fixture, use the table length as your starting point and keep the fixture within the tabletop edges.

Set the hanging height

Begin with the bottom of the fixture 30–36 inches above the tabletop. Adjust for ceiling height, fixture shape and clear sightlines across the table.

Example

For a 48-inch round table, consider a chandelier approximately 24–32 inches in diameter.

Living Room

Choose the diameter

Add the room length and width in feet. Use that total in inches as an approximate chandelier diameter. In an open-plan room, measure the seating area rather than the entire floor.

Check the clearance

In areas people walk beneath, plan for at least 7 feet from the floor to the fixture’s lowest point. A low ceiling may suit a flush or semi-flush design.

Example

A 12 × 16-foot seating area gives a starting diameter of about 28 inches. Adjust for the fixture’s visual weight and furniture scale.

Entryway & Staircase

Balance width and height

Use the room’s length and width to estimate a starting diameter. In double-height spaces, consider a taller or tiered fixture to complement the vertical proportions.

Plan the full drop

Include the canopy, suspension and fixture body when measuring the overall drop. Check clearance above the floor, stairs and landings, as well as views from the upper level.

Before choosing

Measure ceiling height, the open stairwell width and the distance to nearby railings. Floor clearance alone does not determine stair clearance.

Beside a Mirror

Choose the fixture size

Measure the wall space beside the mirror, including the fixture width and backplate. Leave room between the shade, mirror frame and adjacent wall.

Position the light

Place a pair evenly on either side of the mirror. Around 63–65 inches from the floor to the light source is a useful starting point; adjust to the users’ eye level and fixture design.

Check the fit

A wider mirror leaves less side space on a fixed wall. Confirm the full fixture width, not only the mounting plate. Use a fixture rated for its bathroom location.

Bedside Lighting

Match the bedside space

Choose a size that complements the headboard and nightstand. Check the fixture’s projection so it does not intrude into the sleeping area.

Set the mounting position

Test the position while sitting up in bed. The light should reach your reading area without exposing a bright bulb directly to your eyes. Keep switches comfortably within reach.

Before installation

Mark the full fixture outline on the wall with paper or removable tape. Check it against your actual mattress and headboard height.

Hallway & Accent Walls

Consider width and projection

Use compact, shallow fixtures in narrow hallways. Larger wall sections can accommodate taller designs. Check the full depth of the fixture against the walking space.

Plan height and spacing

Keep mounting heights consistent along the wall. Arrange lights around doors, artwork and wall panels. Spacing depends on light output, beam direction and the amount of other lighting.

Design tip

Lay out the complete wall before positioning electrical boxes. Balanced placement matters more than applying one fixed interval everywhere.

Kitchen island diagram showing pendant diameter, center spacing, hanging distance and island length

Kitchen Island

Balance size and quantity

Measure the island length and width first. Larger pendants generally need fewer fixtures; smaller pendants can work in a group. Keep the shades within the island edges.

Set height and spacing

Start with the pendant bottoms 30–36 inches above the countertop. Space centers evenly and check the actual gap between shade edges to avoid a crowded arrangement.

Layout example

On a 96-inch island, two 16-inch pendants centered 24 inches from each end leave 48 inches between centers and a 32-inch gap between shades.

Bedside pendant diagram showing shade diameter and distance above the nightstand

Beside the Bed

Choose a compact diameter

Keep the shade narrower than the nightstand and position it over the tabletop rather than the pillow or the walkway.

Find a comfortable height

Adjust the drop using the nightstand height and your seated eye level. Leave room for everyday items and keep bright light sources out of your direct line of sight.

Layout example

A 10-inch pendant centered over a 24-inch nightstand leaves 7 inches on each side. Test the hanging height before final installation.

Small dining table diagram showing pendant diameter, table width and hanging distance

Small Dining Spaces

Scale to the tabletop

A single pendant creates a focal point over a compact table. Choose a diameter that stays comfortably within the table edges, considering the visual weight of the shade.

Center and suspend

Center the pendant over the table, even when the table is not centered in the room. Start 30–36 inches above the tabletop and check sightlines while seated.

Layout example

An 18-inch pendant over a 36-inch round table leaves 9 inches of tabletop beyond the shade on each side.

Measurements are starting points, not fixed installation requirements. Adjust for fixture shape, ceiling height and your room layout. Diagrams are not to scale. Follow the product’s installation instructions and applicable local requirements.

A few things you might be wondering

Start with your room dimensions, ceiling height and the furniture below the light. Our size guide is a good starting point. If you’re deciding between two sizes, send us a photo and your measurements—we’ll help you compare.

Check the hanging-height range on the product page first. If you need a longer or shorter chain, rod or cable, let us know before ordering so we can confirm the right setup for your space.

It depends on the fixture and its mounting system. Send us the product name and a photo of your ceiling, along with the slope angle if you know it. We’ll check compatibility before you order.

Dimmer compatibility depends on the light source and the switch you use. Send us the fixture name and your dimmer model, and we can help check the combination.

This varies by product. Check the product details for the light source and what’s included. If you’re unsure whether a fixture uses replaceable bulbs or integrated LEDs, ask us before ordering.

Of course—tell us which fixture and finish you’re considering. We’ll check for available close-up photos or videos. Natural materials such as alabaster can vary in tone and veining, so each piece may look slightly different.

Customization is available for selected designs. Send us the size or finish you have in mind, and we’ll confirm what’s possible, along with any price difference and production time.

Allow time for both product preparation and shipping. Standard preparation is generally 3–7 days, while larger or custom pieces may take 7–15 days or longer. Shipping usually takes another 2–4 weeks. Share your installation date before ordering so we can check the schedule for your fixture.

Please take photos of the packaging and affected parts, and contact us within 72 hours of delivery. Keep the packaging while we review the issue and help arrange the next steps.

Please contact us before installing it. Our 30-day return policy applies to eligible items that are unused, uninstalled and in their original packaging. Return shipping for non-quality reasons is normally your responsibility. For a custom order, confirm the return terms before purchasing.
